100% Zakat Policy

Praise be to Allah, we have implemented a 100% Zakat Policy. This means that every penny of your Zakat contribution is allocated to the eight categories specified in the Quran. None of your Zakat is spent on salaries, administrative expenses, or marketing. We are dedicated to ensuring that your donations reach those who are most in need, offering essential assistance to the poorest and most vulnerable individuals in the Muslim community. Your kindness enables us to truly impact the lives of those facing poverty, violence, and injustice.

What is the wisdom of zakat in Islam?

Zakat purifies and cleanses wealth, and purifies the soul from stinginess and miserliness. It strengthens the love between the rich and poor, takes away hatred, makes security prevail and brings happiness to the ummah.

Islam is Built on Five Pillars

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Islam is built upon five [pillars]: the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; establishing regular prayer (salah); paying the zakat; Hajj (pilgrimage) and fasting Ramadan.”

(Agreed upon; narrated by al-Bukhaari, no. 8)

The Third Pillar of Islam: Zakat (Poor Due, ‘Compulsory’ Charity)

The third pillar of Islam is Zakat (obligatory charity, often referred to as the poor due). Just as Allah has created individuals with various colors, attitudes, and levels of knowledge, their actions and provisions also differ. He has made some wealthy and others in need, to test the wealthy in their gratitude and the needy in their patience. Since believers form a brotherhood grounded in compassion, kindness, love, and mercy, Allah has mandated that Muslims give Zakat, which is collected from the rich and distributed to the poor. Allah states (interpretation of the meaning)

What is the rate of zakat?
Allah has made the payment of Zakat mandatory for everyone who possesses the nisab (minimum amount) for a full lunar year. The Zakat rate on gold, silver, and trade goods is 2.5%. For agricultural produce and fruits, the Zakat is set at 10% if irrigated naturally and 5% if irrigated using artificial means. Regarding livestock (such as sheep, goats, cattle, and camels), the specifics are detailed in the fiqh literature. Those who pay Zakat have their sins forgiven, their wealth blessed, and they earn significant rewards. Allah states (interpretation of the meaning)

And perform As-Salah (Iqamat-as-Salah), and give Zakat, and whatever of good (deeds that Allah loves) you send forth for yourselves before you, you shall find it with Allah. Certainly, Allah is All-Seer of what you do.”

[al-Baqarah 2:110]

Withholding zakat brings disasters and evils upon the ummah. Allah has threatened those who withhold it with painful torment on the Day of Resurrection. He says (interpretation of the meaning):

“O you who believe! Verily, there are many of the (Jewish) rabbis and the (Christian) monks who devour the wealth of mankind in falsehood and hinder (them) from the way of Allah (i.e. Allah’s religion of Islamic Monotheism). And those who hoard up gold and silver (Al-Kanz: the money, the Zakat of which has not been paid) and spend them not in the way of Allah, announce unto them a painful torment.

On the Day when that (Al-Kanz: money, gold and silver, the Zakat of which has not been paid) will be heated in the fire of Hell and with it will be branded their foreheads, their flanks, and their backs, (and it will be said unto them:) ‘This is the treasure which you hoarded for yourselves. Now taste of what you used to hoard’”

[al-Taubah 9:34-35]

Concealing one’s zakat is better than paying it openly in front of people, as Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“If you disclose your Sadaqat (almsgiving), it is good; but if you conceal them and give them to the poor, that is better for you. (Allah) will expiate you some of your sins. And Allah is Well-Acquainted with what you do.”

[al-Baqarah 2:271]

Arkrelief – Alleviating Poverty Together

We are a UK-based international relief and development charity committed to making a difference. Guided by Islamic principles of empathy, generosity, and selflessness, our mission is to alleviate poverty and suffering around the globe. We adhere to a 100% Zakat Policy, ensuring that every penny of your Zakat goes directly to those impacted by poverty, conflict, and natural disasters.

Before contributing to our Food Appeal, Water Appeal, Syria Emergency Appeal, Yemen Emergency Appeal, Pakistan Floods Appeal, or any other Emergency Appeal, please remember to set your intention: first, donate for the sake of Allah, and second, to aid your fellow Muslim brothers and sisters. This intention is vital, as every act of worship should be performed with Allah’s pleasure in mind.

In addition to our emergency appeals, we are engaged in remarkable projects that aim, Insha’Allah, to bring prosperity to countless Muslim households worldwide. Your Sadaqah and Zakat can support initiatives such as Build a Masjid, Livelihoods for the Poor, Sponsor a Widow, Sponsor an Orphan, Sponsor a Nikah, Donate a Sewing Machine, and contribute to educational efforts like Sponsoring a Hafiz, Supporting a Child’s Education, or assisting young people in university and Islamic studies. Donate with confidence; Insha’Allah, every penny of your contribution is your Amanah, and we will strive to allocate it to those in need.

As Muslims, we celebrate two significant seasons each year: Ramadan and the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah. During these blessed times, we focus our efforts on pleasing Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى through good deeds. At Arkrelief, we provide a platform for you to fulfill an essential act of worship: charity. In Ramadan, you can participate in the Ramadan Food Appeal, Ramadan Zakat Appeal, Donate Your Fidyah, Donate Your Fitrana, and Pay Your Kaffarah for breaking an oath or fast, particularly during the sacred nights of Laylatul Qadr. In Dhul Hijjah, we assist you in fulfilling your obligation of performing Qurbani. Whatever cause you choose, do so with confidence, Insha’Allah.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever would love to be shaded in the shade of Allah, let him help someone in hardship or waive a loan.”
